Dr. Who. To those of you have never seen this cultural icon of the BBC… It is the story of a time lord, the last of his kind, a humanoid alien who travels with a human companion through both space and time. The series started in the 1960’s and restarted a few years ago with much better special effects and for the most part, a killer story line. One week he will be fighting witches with Shakespeare and the next he could be stopping cat nurses in New New York from breeding humans as vaccine incubators. Dr Who is written in an agnostic/atheistic viewpoint which makes the following statement that much more ironic- pretty much in every show, the Doctor reflects Jesus Christ. Now this is not an iron clad description – the Doctor has faults – the show wouldn’t last very long on TV if he didn’t (nothing duller than perfection on a TV show). But if you look at the similarities they are unmistakable:
There are so many others examples I could not list them all. From end of season 3 when the entire world rose up in one voice saying “Doctor, Doctor, Doctor…" (Every knee shall bow and proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord), to the fact that the Doctor gives every enemy a chance at repentance before he destroys them, just as Christ gives us the same. The similarities between this work of fiction and the Messiah are undeniable. Perhaps this is mere coincidence, just the happenstance ramblings of a collection of gifted writers. Or perhaps it is a small statement buried deep under the language and imagery of atheistic secular humanism. Then again, maybe it is just the figment of my own mind, searching for any straw of faith in the barren wasteland of modern television. Any of these could be true, but as for me – I believe.

Wow I had been thinking about this as I am going through the show. There are so many connections: I thought about how every race that stands up against the Doctor ends up fearing him and I think this is the same with Christ- whether that's the devil and his followers or just the Pharisees while he was living on earth. And in heaven I hope we will be able to see the rest of the universe and explore all of God's creation. Christ is a perfect version of The Doctor because he is able to give us peace for eternity while the doctor is always worried about his companions dying. And after the second coming we will be exiting the confines of time and I can't wait to travel through space with Christ.

Please do not compare a fictional character to Jesus Christ. It is not something that should be mocked about. Jesus Christ is a real entity and He is our Lord God. It would be very disrespectful if people would compare who He is with a character that appears on a television show. In our country, people find that offensive because we give very much importance to our religion and to our Lord God so you have to be careful when it comes to offending other people's religion and culture.

The specialist never utilizes a firearm, just a screw driver. He is the expert of the arrangement regardless of the possibility that it takes forty. A long time for his arrangement to meet up. Christ, as well, is the expert of the arrangement yet on a much bigger scale.

This is so good. I am writing my own post about the same thing right now, and wanted to look up what others have noted. I was not disappointed.

Great post. Totally agree with you (including your questions about the intentionality of the allegory). Another similarity is that when the Doctor's closest friends (and/or the civilisations of which they are a part) are in mortal peril, they have complete faith that the Doctor will show up and rescue them - and he always does.

I have noticed this over and over in the series, which makes me love it even more. Even though the show is supposed to be from an evolution/atheistic point of view, I cannot help but smile at the fact that humans are unable to stop themselves from retelling the same story of Christ over and over, totally unaware they are doing it. It has been knitted into our souls, whether we recognize it or not. The greatest story ever told is still being told in many different forms!
